Boulder, Colorado is at an elevation of about 5,320 feet above sea level. West Boulder is pretty much in the "Foothills"; and even further west are the "real" Rocky Mountains. Many of these areas west of Boulder are State or National Parks, Forests, or Wilderness Areas. They provide outstanding photo opportunities in any season - not only due to the breathtaking landscape but also because of abundant and diverse plant and animal life.
In the summer, the mountains provide a respite from the city heat and an opportunity for
almost any activity imaginable. Fall brings cooler temperatures and brilliant colors, and
White-tail deer and Elk are more commonly seen. Winters here can in one moment bring about
an incredible feeling of peace and tranquility, and in the next provide a harsh reminder that
our survival is at the mercy of Mother Nature. Spring is the time for rejuvenation - the cycle
completes, the melting snow rushes through streams and rivers, and all living things seem to
rejoice.
While most photos presented in the following pages are presented 'as is', one of the joys of having a digital camera is playing with them after the fact! This doctored shot of some poppies at the Millsite Inn reminds me of a Monet?
